JONESBORO, AR - After nearly twelve hours, a standoff between Jonesboro police and a local resident ended peacefully this morning.

The unidentified man surrendered to police shortly after 6 a.m.

The man baricaded himself inside a house on Munos Street in west Jonesboro around 7 p.m. last night.  It is suspected that he was armed with a gun, and he was threatening to harm himself

Members of the JPD SWAT team were summoned to the scene, as were Jonesboro firemen and local medics.

Police blocked off portions of Munos and Dupwe streets for several hours last night and this morning until the situation was finally resolved.  Some homes in the immediate area were also vacated until the situation could be resolved.

"The police negotiators had been negotiating with this individual inside the house, and just before 6 o'clock he let them in and they were able to take him into custody without incident," said JPD public information officer Steve McDaniel

Police have not released the man's name, and it has not yet been determined if any charges will be filed against him.
