MAY 1, 2006 - Posted at 2:01 p.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - The former Cinco de Mayo celebration, now known as The Hispanic Celebration in May, is set for May 13 in downtown Jonesboro.

Local bands, professional Latin music dancers, face painting, pinatas, street bowling, arts & crafts, Spanish cartoons and other activities will be featured at The Forum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Outdoor festivities are expected to continue until 3 p.m.

The festivity has been known for the last four years as the largest cultural event of its kind in Jonesboro, celebrating the pageantry, sounds, and culture of the region's growing Hispanic community.

The Hispanic Celebration in May is co-sponsored by Arkansas State University and Hispanic Community Services, Inc. of Jonesboro.

More information about the festival is available by contacting Gina Gomez at 870-931-1884, or 926-1118, or via e-mail at ginag@jhcsi.org, or Glen Jones at ASU at 972-3030.
