LITTLE ROCK, AR - Drenching rain that fell over the weekend over parts of Arkansas did not negate a drought in the state.
The National Weather Service says most of the state still qualifies as being under a drought, and the next few months are expected to be drier and warmer than normal.
The rain over the weekend brought the year's rainfall total in Little Rock to 18.69 inches. That's 1.4 inches more than average.
The weather service says that the state has a long way to go to catch up from last year. The 34.7 inches that fell in 2005 was more than 16 inches below normal.
The weather service says much of western Arkansas in particular still has drought conditions.
