Baxter County Developer Violating Water Quality Rules

NORFORK, AR - A company developing a parcel of land along the North Fork River in Baxter County has been accused of violating state water standards affecting the quality of the river.  That stream is a popular fly-fishing spot in northern Arkansas.

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has issued an emergency order to Homeport Land Company, telling the company to correct the problems or face fines.  The company is developing Overlook Estates on about 100 acres on a ridge along the North Fork.  Trees were sheared off the ridge to make way for the homes, causing erosion and runoff into the river below.

No one with Homeport Land Company, owned by Benny G. Doyal of Lead Hill, returned a call seeking comment.
