Eastern Arkansas' U.S. Marshal Resigns

MAY 9, 2006 - Posted at 8:07 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Arkansas has resigned.

Ray Carnahan has had the post in Little Rock since August 2002.  The marshals service says Carnahan left for personal reasons.

The office is filled by presidential appointment.

Before he was appointed U.S. Marshal by President Bush, Carnahan had worked for the Arkansas State Police for more than 35 years.

The marshals service serves arrest warrants, transports and guards prisoners, protects federal courts and judges, and coordinates the seizure and sale of forfeited assets.
