Jonesboro Aldermen Expected to Pull Tax Proposal for Convention Center from Ballot

JONESBORO, AR - The Jonesboro City Council is expected to vote tomorrow to remove a sales tax proposal from the June 13 ballot.

The tax would fund construction of a convention center that developer John Q. Hammons proposed to go with a Marriott hotel he said he would build.  But Hammons yanked the proposal after the tax measure appeared to be getting what he perceived as minimal support.
