LITTLE ROCK, AR - Telephone personnel at a calling center for Medicare prescription signups are recovering from a very, very busy day.  Officials said 22,500 people telephoned the calling center at Little Rock yesterday on the final day of signing up for the new plan, which started January 1.

The plan is intended to give elderly Americans a discount on prescription drugs.

Elderly Arkansans had a choice of about 40 plans administered by private companies, each with different premium costs and with different types of drug coverage.  Most premiums cost between $20 and $30 a month.
