SeMo Murder-For-Hire Plot Leads to Arrest

MAY 22, 2006 - Posted at 12:12 p.m. CST

POPLAR BLUFF, MO - A 62-year-old man faces two felony counts of conspiracy to commit murder in Butler County.

Investigators identified the suspect as Jackie Conner.

Conner allegedly attempted to hire someone to help him kill his ex-wife and a man believed to be her boyfriend.  Police say the suspect even went so far as to send $100 as partial payment to an undercover detective who was posing as a hitman.

After his arrest on Thursday, police say Conner told them he wanted the couple killed because they had mistreated his son.

Conner is being held on $250,000 bond at the Butler County Jail in Poplar Bluff.
