Report Urges Missouri Schools to Streamline Process for Military Kids

MAY 24, 2006 - Posted at 2:11 p.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY, MO - A report from a state military commission calls for several changes to help Missouri become a "military friendly state."

Today's report from Military Preparedness and Enhancement Commission calls for streamlining the transition for students transferring among schools.  It also calls for further study to allow military personnel to vote in local elections.

Commission members say they hope the report and resulting changes will help garner recognition by the Department of Defense as a "military friendly state."  They say that's an important factor in determining which bases are closed and which stay open.

Kent Thomas leads the panel that wrote the report.  He says he hopes the report will be a catalyst for needed changes.
