Newark Man's Glider Crashes in Cross County

CHERRY VALLEY, AR - An Independence County pilot was injured this afternoon when he lost control of his sailplane, or glider.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, was making his landing approach at a Cherry Valley airport when the accident occured shortly before 1 p.m.  He sustained minor injuries, and after being extricated from the aircraft, was taken by ambulance to St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, but it is believed his aircraft may have clipped a nearby tree as he made his approach to land.  The accident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
