Memorial Day--Summer Fun Officially Begins

MAY 29, 2006 -- POSTED AT 9:30 P.M. CDT

JONESBORO, AR -- Memorial Day is a day of fun for most kids; a day to play and most importantly the start of summer.

"I'm happy. It's so hot out here. You need a pool like this open," says Tiffany and Marissa Hagen, two kids swimming at Earl Bell Community Center.

When the weather is hot, being at the pool sounds like a great idea, especially if you're a kid. And although most schools just let out for summer, it sounded like the kids are already making big plans for their summer vacation.

"We're going swimming, skateboarding, going out of town, pretty much whatever comes to us, but mostly just happy to be out of school," says a group of kids at the pool.

Regardless, the kids were having fun at the pool, but some knew the real reason behind this holiday.

"Honoring the soldiers that have fought for us and gave their lives," says Tiffany Hagen.
