Mural Painting to Begin in August on Cape Girardeau Flood Wall

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - A Chicago artist expects to begin painting Cape Girardeau's Wall of Fame flood wall in August, and organizers are hopeful the project will be completed by the end of summer.

The flood wall has long protected the southeast Missouri town's downtown from the Mississippi River.  In February, the Cape Girardeau River Heritage Mural Association announced plans to update the wall's mural with a new, more polished look.

Artist Thomas Melvin was commissioned for the mural, which consists of portraits of famous people with ties to Missouri.

Melvin says he won't be able to begin until August because he's busy with other projects in Chicago and Canada.

A date for a dedication ceremony has not been set.
