JONESBORO, AR -- Over the last few years, Jonesboro has grown by leaps and bounds and the growth spurt seems to be continuing.
Although the city recently lost a proposed hotel and convention center, leaders say not to be discouraged, good things will happen in Jonesboro.
"There are always businesses interested in coming to Jonesboro," said Cari White of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, "It's a great place to be and it's a great place to do business. I think that we don't always know who's looking at us."
There are plenty of places to look for property in Jonesboro.
"When you start getting the caliber of retail projects that we have, that just breeds more projects. I wouldn't be surprised by anything that we get and I think the growth is going to continue," said White.
City planners say one thing Jonesboro does need is a hotel and convention center. Springfield, Missouri based developer John Q. Hammons had plans to develop a hotel to accommodate a convention center, but lost interest in the project when he felt the community wasn't behind it. The property purchased for that site is now back on the market.
"It was very disappointing. Especially for those of us who had been working on the project for over two years," said White.
White says Jonesboro desperately needs a large facility for visiting groups.
"I hate that we're not going to have a convention center as soon as we thought we were going to, because we need one. We get calls daily from folks who want to have meetings in our area," said White.
