Teenage Boy Drowns in Residential Pond

JUNE 5, 2006 -- POSTED AT 9:00 P.M. CDT

CROSS COUNTY, AR -- A 16-year-old boy drowned Monday afternoon after swimming with friends in a Cross County residential pond.

Logan Boeckmann, of Wynne, was swimming with his brother, when he apparently began to struggle and submerged under water. The boys were working with friends to build a dock off the pond when they decided to take an afternoon swim.

"They were going to swim out to the middle of the lake. They've got a dock thing out there where they climb out there and swim and dive off of and the young man and his brother started swimming toward it and never made it. He went under a couple of times and came back up and the last time he went under, he didn't surface," says Ronnie Baldwin, the Cross County Sheriff.

Police say the boy's friends pulled him out of the lake and into a fishing boat. They tried to perform C.P.R., but were unable to resuscitate him. The cause of the drowning is still a question among friends and family. Boeckmann's body will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
