JONESBORO, AR -- The Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding an unusual membership event.

Over the next two days, members of the chamber will gather together in a membership "competition", trying to get new members to join.

"This is our first ever major membership event like this. We're doing a different kind of membership event, with competition included," said Jimmy Cusano, Vice President of New Chamber Connection.

There are six teams, and each team has two hours to get as many new members as possible.

"We're a bit competitive. We're doing very, very well. Right now we've got 12 new members," said Keith Cragg, Captain of the "Pink Team".

Jimmy Cusano travels around the country doing events like this one for different chambers.

"The chamber heard about this program, and said, 'You know, this is perfect for Jonesboro,' especially considering this is one of the top chambers in the state," said Cusano.

A normal membership drive will bring in about 50 new members. In two hours, 6 teams brought in 83 new members to the chamber, and they're not finished yet.

"It's all in good fun. The team goal for this event is 201 new members. We're probably going to shatter that," said Cragg.

This event is a great way to bring in new members. It's also a great way for current members to get to know each other a little bit better.

"We all know each other, and if we don't, we'll get to know each other before it's all over with," said Yvonne Clark, member of the "Black Team.

By working together and having fun, hopefully all teams will be successful.

The teams will continue to try to meet their membership goal on Wednesday, June 6.

This same type of event has been held at different cities in Arkansas. Previous events were held in Fayetteville and Paragould.
