HOT SPRINGS, AR - The state high school basketball championships will be held in Hot Springs for three years, starting with the coming season.

The Arkansas Activities Association Board of Directors voted today to play in the Spa City through 2009.

The association says North Little Rock, Jonesboro and Pine Bluff also bid on the tournament.  Of the 19 members on the board, 11 voted for Hot Springs.

North Little Rock has hosted the tournament at Alltel Arena for the past three years.

Jonesboro's bid called for the city and Arkansas State University to co-host the event at the ASU Convocation Center.  The city's bid was endorsed by its municipal Advertising & Promotion Commission, which also contributed $10,000 to the local bid.

Hot Springs will host the tournament's championship rounds in its new Convention Center Summit Arena, a 124,200-square foot facility which seats 6,000 for athletic events.
