Republicans File Ethics Complaints over Nixon Donations from Ameren

JUNE 13, 2006 - Posted at 7:58 a.m. CST

ST. LOUIS, MO - The Missouri Republican State Committee is filing an ethics complaint against Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon.

The committee claims Nixon should not have accepted campaign contributions that came from AmerenUE.

Nixon returned $19,000 in campaign contributions last week that originated with Ameren.  The St. Louis utility gave money to four Democratic campaign committees, which in turn gave most of the money to Nixon's campaign for governor.

Republicans say Nixon broke state ethics laws.  Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the complaint has no merit and won't go anywhere.

Missouri Ethics Commission staff members will investigate the complaint before passing it on the commission for a ruling.
