TEXARKANA, AR - With no opposition in site, the winner of Tuesday's Democratic runoff is on track to become Miller County's chief law enforcement officer after the first of the year...Sheriff Rambo.
Sheriff Linda Rambo, that is. The winner of the runoff is to become only the second elected female sheriff in the state's history.
The 57-year-old Rambo is a retired trooper with the Arkansas State Police. She defeated Toby Giles, chief deputy of the Miller County sheriff's office, in the runoff Tuesday.
She has no Republican opposition in the November general election, and only a write-in candidate could emerge as an opponent.
Rambo says she considers it a challenge to succeed in the top local post in what has been a male-dominated profession.
