Viewers' Feedback Vol. II

This week we'll once again share your feedback on some of topics we have addressed and news stories we have covered the past few weeks...

Let's start with our recent story on the controversy surrounding the Dixie Chicks new album...

Kristy from Bono writes...

"There is just too much irony involved in the timing of the Dixie Chicks story. First, it is aired on Primary Election Day and just days before Memorial Day Weekend. Every elected official swears to up hold the Constitution of The United States. The Bill of Rights composes the First Ten Amendments of the Constitution--Freedom of Speech being one of those Ten Amendments."

And Marie from Jonesboro says...

"I will preface my comments by saying that I am not a fan of country music or The Dixie Chicks. However, I do not believe any person, whether a celebrity or not, should be chastised because he/she has strong opinions about President Bush or any other president who has been in office."

Thanks for your comments. Many people were and are extremely upset at the Dixie Chicks, primarily Natalie Maines, for her comments bashing President Bush... but you know what... they had every right to do that. In fact, the men and women who represent our country in the armed forces have fought to give them that right. Just like they have given me the right to stand here and share our viewpoints.

The Dixie Chicks can think, feel... and yes "say"... anything they want. And if you disagree with their comments... you have the freedom to say what you think. That's what makes America so wonderful.

But Debbie from Paragould actually says it much better and her comments had nothing to do with the Dixie Chicks...

"I enjoy watching your "Consider This" commentary, and while I don't always agree with every opinion you express it is very informative and allows me to look at topics from a different perspective. How grateful I am that I live in a nation where differing opinions are allowed with no fear of recourse. I hope you continue this segment if for no other reason than it is one of our basic rights upon which this country was founded."

Debbie, you really get what we are trying to do. There is an old phrase that says "A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still." Our goal is to create discussion, to share another viewpoint... we certainly do not expect everyone to agree with us... we merely want to initiate constructive debate. That's a healthy process that builds strong communities.

Regarding our get out and vote comments we heard from many viewers who agree that the right to vote should be taken seriously.

This came to us from Lori in Paragould...

"Voting is one of the very few rights that we Americans have left that has not been altered, or completely taken away.

My grandmother and mother taught me from an early age if you don't exercise your right to vote, you don't have the right to gripe when the elected official doesn't do things the way you believe they should be done."

Lori, your mother and grandmother are very wise women.

Speaking of voting... Tuesday is run-off election day in Arkansas so make sure you get out and vote. There are some important races that impact Region 8 so please take the time cast your ballot.

Keep those comments and suggestions coming... You can e-mail us at consider this at kait or log onto kait8 dot com and click on Consider This... We look forward to hearing from you. Have a great week.
