Secretary of State Names Panel to Review Elections

JUNE 16, 2006 - Posted at 7:59 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Secretary of State Charlie Daniels has named the members of a panel that will evaluate voting problems in the primary elections last month and the runoffs this week, and complete a report.

Members include Kent Walker of the Pulaski County Election Commission, state Senator Steve Faris of Malvern, Representative Jim Medley of Fort Smith, Jim Gandy of the Boone County Election Commission, Tim Humphries of the secretary of state's office, and Faron Ledbetter, president of the Arkansas Association of County Clerks.

Daniels said at a news conference yesterday that he expects the report to be completed this summer.

Daniels said the company that provided new voting equipment and software to the state, Election Systems and Software of Omaha, Nebraska, let Arkansas down.  Daniels vowed yesterday to make improvements to voting equipment before the general election this fall.
