Ethics Panel Rules in Paragould Politician's Favor

JUNE 16, 2006 - Posted at 3:25 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The state Ethics Commission says a political ad by a candidate for lieutenant governor that mentioned Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Beebe does not count as a contribution toward Beebe's campaign.

The advisory opinion approved by the panel today said an ad by state Senator Tim Wooldridge, who was defeated in Tuesday's Democratic runoff for lieutenant governor, did not expressly advocate the election of Beebe.  The ad referred to Wooldridge as the most qualified candidate to partner with Beebe.

The opinion said the advertisement merely referenced Beebe but does not necessarily support his election.

The state Republican Party requested the opinion.
