Jonesboro Growing in Record Numbers

June 27, 2006 -- 6:00 PM CDT

JONESBORO, AR -- Jonesboro is the fifth largest city in the state of Arkansas, and the city is booming as people continue to move in.

"I think it's just phenomenal," said Cari White of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce.  "The growth that we've seen over the last five years in the community...especially in the retail market...I think our community was just ready for better retail outlets."

From retail outlets to restaraunts, White said that Jonesboro is ready to see bigger and better things.

"It makes us prosperous," she said.  "Your community grows or it dies."

According to the United States Census Bureau's population clock, the U.S. adds one person every 11 seconds; in Jonesboro that equals about one thousand people a year.

"I'm not at all surprised by that.  Growth comes every year in our area," said White.

She said that the numbers will increase in the years to come.

"I think five years from now, we will be 10 thousand people bigger than we are now, and I don't think that's a bad thing."
