Jonesboro Finance Director Resigns Amid Controversy

JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro's finance director and city treasurer has resigned.

Larry Flowers, who has held the position for ten years, formally resigned on Monday afternoon.  Mayor Doug Formon said the resignation stems from issues with the annual audit of city finances, issues that he says surfaced in March of 2005.

In a letter to the Mayor, however, Flowers states that his resignation is for purely personal reasons and has nothing to do with issues surrounding the audit.  However, Flowers stated several times in the letter that Formon had questioned his job performance regarding the audit...something that Flowers clearly did not appreciate.

Both Flowers and Formon agreed that in nine of the ten years that Flowers served the city as finance director, this is the only time that any issues have arisen regarding the yearly audit.
