JUNE 29, 2006 - Posted at 7:47 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A traffic safety advocacy group says that, although the percentage of young drivers who die in traffic accidents in Arkansas is down from ten years ago, more teenage drivers are killed in Arkansas than the national average.

The group, End Needless Death on Our Roadways, and the National Safety Council ranked Arkansas 22nd out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2004 for traffic fatalities involving 16 to 20-year-old drivers.

A news release said that more than 21 percent of Arkansas accidents that had fatalities involved at least one young driver.  Washington, D.C. had the highest percentage at 30 percent while North Dakota ranked last with eleven percent.
