Mental Health Task Force Considering Opening Records

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A governor's task force is

considering opening up records of abuse and neglect at mental

health institutions.

Currently, investigative reports of abuse allegations are closed

to the public, as well as to employees against whom the allegations

were made and the families of other clients at the facilities.

A task force headed by Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder decided

to look into whether those records should be opened to public.

Kinder says that, generally speaking, shedding light on allegations

helps reduce problems.
