Republican AG Nominee Targets McDaniel over Immigrant Vote

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Republican attorney general candidate Gunner DeLay wants to make it illegal for a bail bondsman to provide bail to an illegal immigrant charged with a felony.  DeLay criticized his Democratic rival yesterday for supporting a proposal that would have made children of illegal immigrants eligible for state-funded scholarships.

In doing so, DeLay unveiled a series of proposals he said were aimed at curbing illegal immigration.  In addition to the no-bail-for-illegal aliens proposal, DeLay said he would use the attorney general's Medicaid Fraud unit to investigate employers that are supplying fake documents or Social Security numbers to employ illegal immigrants.

DeLay criticized Dustin McDaniel's vote on the scholarship issue in the Legislature last year.  McDaniel, a state representative from Jonesboro, says DeLay's comments are "inflammatory and inaccurate."
