PARAGOULD, AR -- The Paragould City Beautiful Commission wants to improve the mausoleum at Linwood Cemetery.
"The building actually needs some repair," said Donna Knight, President of the City Beautiful Commission. "We're just trying to raise money to make it look better up there."
The crypts were donated to the commission, and they've decided to auction them off to raise money for improvements.
The bidding started Monday morning at $3,000.
"We've had a lot of calls," said Knight. "We've had some people who are real interested in it. They've just been waiting for us to put the bid sheets up at the city hall."
Some people would consider the mausoleum to be heaven on earth.
"It's an amazing thing to see. There's a famous gangster, Frank Nash up there. There's a lot of predominate families inside too," said Knight.
There are 160 crypts inside the mausoleum with only a few vacancies, but none of those vacant crypts are for sale. That's why this auction is considered to be huge. Knight said that this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to the highest bidder.
"It's just a very prestigious place to be and a lot of people want their family members there, or they want to be there," she said.
