Pemiscot County Authorities Make Murder Arrest

JULY 12, 2006 - Posted at 4:42 p.m. CDT

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - A Pemiscot County man has been charged with Second Degree Murder today, following a shooting incident last night in Bragg City.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says 42-year-old Rickey Lee Johnson of Bragg City also faces charges of armed criminal action in connection with the shooting, which occured at approximately 10:30 p.m. at a residence at 361 South Elm Street.  Greenwell says Johnson was arrested a short time later and confessed to shooting 42-year-old Jeffrey McCormick.

McCormick was taken to the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti, where he was later pronounced dead by coronor Jim Brimhall.

Greenwell says an autopsy performed today showed that McCormick died as the result of a .22-caliber gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Bond for Johnson has been set at $110,000 and he is expected to appear before Judge Byron Luber Thursday morning.
