Hoxie - A plane crash in Lawrence County claimed the lives of two region 8 men early Monday evening.

Both men were riding in what was described as a small plane from either the 1940s or 1950s.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash. The plane went down in a field off of Highway 91 about ten miles south of Walnut Ridge, near the Hoxie Flying Service.   The accident occured at approximately 6 p.m.

A source identified the victims for K8 News as Kyle Heard and Robert Blakeney.

Authorities say that when the plane crashed it burst in to flames... All that's left is just the charred framework of the plane.

The investigation is continuing, and FAA and NTSB officials are expected to visit the crash site today.
