Sikeston Deputy Injured in Wreck with Stolen Vehicle

JULY 18, 2006 - Posted at 4:11 p.m. CDT

SIKESTON, MO - A southeast Missouri deputy and two suspects were injured after the officer's patrol car was struck by a pickup truck that was reported stolen in Minnesota.

Scott County deputy Dane Stausing's patrol car was struck yesterday near Sikeston.

Eric Swanson of Albany, Minnesota, and passenger Crystal Victorian of Glencore, Minnesota, face charges of felony assault on a law enforcement officer.

Authorities say Swanson was driving eratically and several patrol cars surrounded his pickup when Swanson allegedly sped up and struck Stausing's car.  Police later learned Swanson's father had reported the pickup stolen.

The deputy was hospitalized with back, neck and stomach pain.  Swanson had a concussion and Victorian suffered a fractured neck.
