Gubernatorial Candidate Proposes Tax Credit for Bike Purchases

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Independent gubernatorial candidate Rod Bryan not only wants to bike his way into the governor's office, he wants the rest of the state to join him on two wheels.  Bryan, whose main campaign vehicle has been a bike rather than a bus, van or limo, has proposed a state income tax credit for the full amount of the purchase price of new and used bicycles.

The former Little Rock record store owner proposed the tax credit as part of a series of proposals he said would promote cycling instead of driving as a way to help the environment.  Bryan said he did not know how much such a credit would cost or how he would fund it.

He said, "Anything we can do to get people onto their bicycle and out of their cars I think is a good thing."
