Berry Calls for Emergency Border Security Funding

JULY 11, 2006 - Posted at 3:01 p.m. CDT

WASHINGTON - First District Congressman Marion Berry introduced a House Resolution today calling on Congress to appropriate emergency funding to enhance the nation's border security initiative.  The resolution makes border security the first priority for immigration reform, encouraging Congress to implement a new border security strategy that integrates additional fencing, manpower, and new technologies.

"There is no reason why the wealthiest country in the world cannot find the resources to get control of our borders and account for every individual entering this country," said Berry.  "We are failing our citizens and jeopardizing our national security by allowing thousands of undocumented aliens to pour into our country every day.  This is an emergency situation that demands the immediate attention of our elected leaders."
