Corrections Board Expands Medical Contract by More Than $1 Million

JULY 25, 2006 - Posted at 7:49 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A medical services contract expansion of nearly $1.39 million to improve psychiatric care for inmates has been approved by the state prison board.  The Board of Correction voted 5-0 yesterday to expand its $38 million contract with Correctional Medical Services of St. Louis.

Correction Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler said the new contract will help the state attract psychiatrists by offering higher pay.  The state has three vacancies among its five budgeted positions for psychiatrists.
