ST. LOUIS, MO - Ameren Corporation officials believe most of St. Louis will be out of the dark sometime today.
The twin storms that knocked out power to more than a half-million customers last week created the worst outage in the region's history. Ameren is defending its efforts to restore power, though U.S. Senator Jim Talent yesterday called for an investigation after all service is restored.
Cooling centers and shelters remain open in the region amid concern that rising temperatures could create a renewed health hazard in the St. Louis area.
