Hutchinson Proposes Creating Drug Enforcement Bureau

BENTON, AR - Republican gubernatorial nominee Asa Hutchinson is proposing the creation of a Drug Enforcement Bureau within the Arkansas State Police and increased funding for the state's drug task forces.

Hutchinson is the former head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.  The measure he proposes for the state he says would help battle the use of methamphetamine and other illegal drugs.  He says creating the new bureau would likely require additional officers and money, but he didn't have an estimate.

Hutchinson is running for governor against Democratic Attorney General Mike Beebe and independent candidate Rod Bryan.

Hutchinson is expected to further address his drug enforcement program tomorrow while in Jonesboro.
