BAY, AR -- The body of a young woman was found Saturday afternoon near Bay in rural Craighead County.

The Craighead County Sheriff's Department says the young woman died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman found is believed to be 24-year-old Cassandra Adney, who was reported missing on Wednesday of last week.

"We were pretty sure it was her.  That was the only missing person's report that we had, and she had a connection to Bay," said Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann.

The connection...a boyfriend who lives in Bay and the child she shares with him.

Sheriff McCann said the clothing found on the body matches the description of what Adney was last seen wearing

The body was found near a ditch that runs through a rice farm.  The farmer saw some trash bags there a few days before but didn't think much about it, when he did check it out on Saturday, he discovered the body.

On Monday, K8 news tried to make contact with the farmer, and were unable to locate him.

The sheriff's department does have a suspect, and most importantly evidence

"We do have some evidence that we're getting ready to send to Little Rock, and we're awaiting the results of whatever they find on that evidence," said McCann.

Adney's family has been notified of the discovery, and they're working to get dental records so that a positive identification can be made.

"We're not positive what brought this about, but we've got a theory.  That's what we're trying to clear up right now," said McCann.

The body is in Little Rock at the state medical examiners office.
