PARAGOULD, AR - Volunteer firefighters in Greene County didn't have far to travel to extinguish a blaze this morning.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., firefighters were alerted to a fire at the Western Greene County Fire District's #1 station. "I was the first person on the scene and there was fire coming from the center of the building. There was fire coming out from the rooftop. It had just begun to vent itself at that point," said fire chief Marvin Gander.
Firefighters pulled another pumper from a nearby garage to extinguish the fire. "We had two trucks in this building and we were able to get those out. It looks like we have salvaged most of the equipment inside, but the building is a total loss," said Gander.
The building, which was primarily used for training volunteer firefighters and housing firetrucks and records, was under renovation.
Gander says his unit will still be able to respond to any fires and emergencies in his district.
