PARAGOULD, AR -- Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor is taking a tour around the state.
"I'm taking this August recess to go around the state and talk to people. I'm doing this more to just listen to find out what's on people's minds," said Pryor.
Pryor's first stop of the day was the Tenneco plant in Paragould.
"Paragould, being one of the fastest growing communities in Arkansas, we're pleased for him to come and see what's going on," said Sue McGowan, CEO of the Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce.
"I'm really concerned about the manufacturing base here in Arkansas and in America. Monroe Shocks is one of the pillars of the manufacturing community here in Arkansas," said Pryor.
After leaving Paragould, Senator Pryor made a stop at the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce. Area residents came to this town hall meeting to share their concerns with the senator.
"He seems to have this special knack for knowing what our local needs are," said Mike Cameron.
One great thing we're experiencing locally is growth.
"If you look at the rural counties and towns all around the country, there aren't very many of them that are growing at the pace that this part of the state is," said Pryor.
One topic that is very close to home for many in Region 8 is the turmoil in the Middle East.
"I think, as we have the guard leaving, and increased trained workers leaving to go sere our country, that's an issue that we have to be concerned with," said Beverly McCollum.
