NORFORK, Ark. (AP) _ Test results from the North Fork River show
heavy sedimentation and a 50 percent decrease in organisms within
about 150 feet of the river.
A biologist with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality
took water samples from the river earlier this summer after the
agency issued an emergency order. The order was issued to the
developer of Overlook Estates, which sits above the river.
The developer, Benny Doyal, has been stabilizing the site and trying
to make corrections. But a recent heavy rain washed away much of
the erosion controls.
The state agency says it will continue to monitor the site and plans
to take water samples again this fall and next spring.
