New Poll Shows Beebe Leading Hutchinson

AUGUST 22, 2006 - Posted at 7:49 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - According to a new poll released last night, Democrat Mike Beebe leads his opponent, Republican Asa Hutchinson, in the governor's race.

Beebe leads with 52 percent compared with Hutchinson's 31 percent, according to the poll.  The poll was conducted for Stephens Media Group and KLRT-TV in Little Rock.

The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.  From August 15 - August 19, Opinion Research Associates Incorporated conducted telephone interviews with 500 randomly selected registered voters who said they planned to cast ballots in the November 7 election.  Interviews were conducted statewide and divided equally among Arkansas' four congressional districts.

Beebe, the state's attorney general, and Hutchinson, a former Congressman, also face independent candidate Rod Bryan in the November election.
