MEMPHIS, TN -- 25 men and women from 15 different countries across the world cheered in celebration as their dream of becoming American Citizens became reality. Dr.'s Calin and Mihaela Savu came to the United States from Romania in 1991. In 2000, they moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas, where they had their first child.
"It's the true accomplishment of an American dream. Since we were very small children, we always dreamt of becoming part of America," says Dr. Calin Savu.
Friends stood by their side as they took their oath of allegiance to become an American Citizen, something they say should never be taken for granted.
"It's sad that a lot of people don't appreciate how great of a nation America is. We've been around, we've been all over the world and I can tell you this, this is best place on the face of the earth," says Savu.
The emotion and excitement felt within the family was evident, but they say they've waited so long to have this dream come true, they already feel like true Americans at heart.
"I think we were Americans long before we received this piece of paper, just by the way we feel, by the way we think, by the way we work, we became Americans long ago," says Savu.
Getting to this day has definitely been a journey, but however long the wait; they both agree that being an American is something they wouldn't trade for the world.
