Bush Visits Arkansas for Hutchinson Fundraiser

AUGUST 30, 2006 - Posted at 4:24 p.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - President Bush was in Arkansas today to campaign privately for Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson.  Bush's appearance at former Razorback and NBA player Joe Kleine's Little Rock home today may give Hutchinson a final boost before the traditional Labor Day kickoff of the fall campaign.

About 800 people attended the $500 per plate luncheon at Kleine's home, with the money going toward both Hutchinson's campaign and the Republican Party of Arkansas.

The president's appearance was not open to the public or media.

But in a brief presentation at the Little Rock airport, he awarded a Presidential Call to Service Award to Joy Cameron of Sherwood for hurricane relief work.  Cameron led a corps of volunteers who provided 9,000 meals to Hurricane Katrina refugees at a North Little Rock shelter for a month after last year's storm.
