Greyhound to Close Jonesboro Bus Terminal

AUGUST 31, 2006 - Posted at 4:04 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Jonesboro is apparently the next Arkansas city to lose service from Greyhound Bus Lines.

Local terminal manager Bonnie Phillips confirmed this morning that the company will close the Jomesboro terminal, at 2901 Industrial Drive, on September 30.  Greyhound Vice President for Operations Ted Burk said, "Greyhound is making further network changes, effective September 30, 2006.  Frequency changes are being made and some locations are being eliminated.  Making these changes is essential to our ability to meet the needs of our customers and increase profitability so the company is financially viable in the long term."

Last year, Greyhound eliminated service to more than half of the Arkansas communities that it previously served, including Corning, Hardy, Marked Tree, Mountain Home, Newport, Osceola and Tuckerman in Region 8.

Considering that the University of Central Arkansas mascot is a bear, it was only natural that one should be found less than a mile from campus.
