Clinton to Headline Fundraiser for Jonesboro's McDaniel

SEPTEMBER 1, 2006 - Posted at 7:20 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former President Clinton will headline a fundraiser next week to help elect Democratic attorney general candidate Dustin McDaniel of Jonesboro to the first elective office that Clinton won.  Clinton will attend a Little Rock fundraiser for McDaniel, who represents Jonesboro and Craighead County in the Legislature.  The event is one of a series of fundraisers the former president is participating in September 7 in Arkansas.  He's also headlining a fundraiser for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Beebe.

Clinton served one term as attorney general before being elected governor and then president.  About 40 people are expected to attend the $2,000 per person fundraiser for McDaniel at the home of Bill Clark, a former state highway commissioner.

McDaniel's opponent, former state senator Gunner DeLay of Fort Smith, used Clinton's appearance to criticize McDaniel as too liberal.  DeLay says he thinks Clinton is McDaniel's hero just as Ronald Reagan is DeLay's.
