Lawmaker to Propose Another Cell Phone Bill

SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 - Posted at 4:36 p.m. CDT

GRAVETTE, AR - A state representative from Gravette says he'll again propose a bill requiring drivers to use hands-free devices for cell phones.  Republican Kim Hendren proposed similar measures in 2003 and 2005.

Hendren proposed a measure in 2003 to require motorists to use hands-free cellular phones in moving cars.  He offered a similar bill in 2005.  That one would have required a compatible hands-free device be available for all cell phones sold in the state.

His previous bills had little success, but Hendren says support for his initiatives in increasing.  He says some lawmakers have told him that they're ready to help him with his bill because of accidents that have happened in their districts.
