Huckabee Says He Supports Flat Tax, Calls Idea "Biblical"

SEPTEMBER 7, 2006 - Posted at 7:57 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Calling the idea a "biblical" solution, Governor Huckabee yesterday suggested a flat tax, similar to tithing.

Huckabee is term-limited and has said he is considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.  He cited a past presidential candidate, Republican Steve Forbes, who had made the flat tax a central part of his White House bid.

Huckabee said on the Arkansas Radio Network yesterday that he still supports a plan to make the children of illegal immigrants eligible for state-funded scholarships.

Several callers asked Huckabee about illegal immigration and some criticized the governor for the proposal, which was the only one of his 21-bill legislative package that failed to win legislative approval in the 2005 regular session.
