ST. LOUIS, MO - A federal judge orders a southeast Missouri school to stop handing out free Bibles to elementary school children.

A U.S. District Court judge in St. Louis ruled yesterday that South Iron Elementary School in Annapolis wrongly allowed the practice soley to promote Christianity to students.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a complaint in February asking the court to prohibit the school from allowing Gideons International into classrooms to hand out Bibles.  The ACLU filed the suit on behalf of two sets of parents from the district.

The small school has allowed the program for years.
