BULL SHOALS, AR - An explosion in an outdoor service area at the Bull Shoals Dam triggered a fire early today.
A woman driving across the dam saw a flash about 12:30 a.m. and called an emergency operator. Investigators said an oil pot head device exploded and that some of the oil in the damaged equipment caught fire. No injuries were reported.
The Army Corps of Engineers, which maintains the dam, says the device is located on a transformer deck. Operators in the dam's powerhouse were able to reconfigure lines and prevent a loss of electricity.
