LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas election officials said today they plan to ask legislators to change the date that absentee ballots are due from counties, and request other changes to state election laws.
The secretary of state's office wants legislators to make the changes during next year's General Assembly.
Federal officials asked Arkansas to allow more time for overseas and military voters to return ballots. That and other changes would need legislative approval.
Tim Humphries, a lawyer for the secretary of state office, says the absentee change would likely alter other deadlines, including certification of party nominees and deadlines for drawing ballot positions.
