Accused Killer of Batesville Man, Others Enjoying Notoriety

SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 - Posted at 7:05 a.m. CDT

PARIS, MAINE - A jail inmate says a fellow inmate accused of killing four people, including an Arkansan, seemed to be enjoying his notoriety.  Ryan Brown, who was allegedly attacked by Christian Nielsen laughed whenever he saw newspaper accounts of the Labor Day weekend killings.  The 31-year-old Nielsen was later moved to another jail, and is being held without bail on four counts of murder.

Police say Nielsen confessed to shooting and dismembering three women at a bed & breakfast where he was staying.  They also say Nielsen told them that he killed 50-year-old James Whitehurst, who was working as a handyman after coming to Maine this summer from Batesville, Arkansas.
